By way of this blog I stumbled upon a clip of Alice Waters speaking at the Aspen Ideas Festival about her hopes for a food-conscious President Obama. (Sorry, but for some reason it won’t embed.)
Most of this is, of course, not my sort of foodism-gone-political – I’m deeply fearful of the kind of nanny-stating that usually grows out of an obsession with things like obesity, and Obama’s professed care for Midwestern farmers has already taken destructive turns – but I should say that the idea of press conferences being held beside the official White House compost heap is exciting, if only because of the sort of reaction it would prompt from the likes of Jonah Goldberg.
