“… to think clearly is a necessary first step toward political regeneration.” – George Orwell

Sullivan Award Nominee

Sorry, but I just can’t help myself:

Yes, I am an elitist in as much as I would like the president of the United States to be halfway educated and have more than eighteen months experience in a state of 700,000 people.

For the record, Sarah Palin’s bachelor’s degree from the University of Idaho puts her among the top 27% of Americans in terms of educational attainment.

I am, by the way, entirely serious about this award, which will be handed out for remarks, made by pundits on any side of the political spectrum, that suggest the kind of brazen personal animus or cringe-inducing sociocultural insensitivity that can only arise from extreme partisanship or a complete unwillingness to stop digging and admit one’s own mistakes. Nominations from the peanut gallery are of course welcome, ESPECIALLY IF THEY DO NOT INVOLVE ANDREW SULLIVAN. (NRO might be a decent place to look.) If things go as hoped, I’ll run a poll at the end of the year so that readers can pick the best of the best.

Oh, this is gonna be fun!! Don’t forget Pandagon.

As a feminist, whenever I read Amanda Marcotte I cringe in much the same way principled conservatives do when they read Bill Kristol.

For the record, whenever I hear second wave feminists engage in their highly reductive Marxist materialism, I break out into hives.

I am not a huge fan of post-structuralists, but give me Judith Butler any day over that junk. Even if she does give me performance anxiety :).

At the end of the day, Andrew Sullivan is as relevant to the political discourse of this country as a pimple on a dog’s butt. He was gone over the last 15 years from being a credible writer and and outside the box thinker to being a shrill and hysterical shill for the Obama campaign (going so far as to put a direct link on his blog to the Obama fundraising page. I sent an email accusing him and the Atlantic of being political bagmen, and was treated to a snippy little note denying the charge from his assistant Patrick) Andrew Sullivan is just Arianna Huffington after menopause. Ignore him.
